Cookies We Set, and Why
No analytics cookie is set on this site unless you accept it, and the calculator does not need cookies at all. Last updated 4 September 2026.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser to remember things between pages or visits. UK law, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations alongside UK GDPR, requires us to tell you which ones we use and to get your consent before setting any that are not strictly necessary.
What we set, and when
On your first visit we set nothing beyond what is needed to remember your answer to the banner. Google Analytics is only loaded, and its cookies only set, if you press accept.

The last two are not strictly cookies. They are stored in your browser's local and session storage rather than sent to us with every request, which is a smaller footprint for the same job. They are listed here anyway, because the law covers storing information on your device however it is done, and a policy that quietly omits storage on a technicality is not much of a policy. The calculator answers are storage the tool you asked for cannot work without, so they are not behind the banner.
Measurement that sets no cookies
We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to count page views and measure loading performance. They are first party, they set no cookies and they do not track you across other websites, so there is no storage on your device to consent to and they are not behind the banner. They cannot identify you.
The check that you are not a robot, on pages that carry a form, is Cloudflare Turnstile. It was chosen over Google reCAPTCHA precisely because it sets no cookies. Keeping automated submissions away from a paid partner is a necessity rather than a preference, so it needs no consent either.
Beyond those, the site loads nothing from another company on an ordinary page unless you accept analytics. No fonts, no images, no embeds, no maps, no video players, no chat widget, no social buttons. The two typefaces here were served by Google until 27 August 2026 and are now files on our own server.
Advertising
We do not set advertising cookies and we do not run retargeting. Google Analytics is loaded with its advertising features switched off, so nothing here builds an advertising profile of you or follows you to another website. What happens to details you deliberately type into a form is a different question, and the privacy policy answers it field by field.
Changing your mind
You can change your answer at any time, and refusing later is as easy as accepting was. Use the button below to bring the banner back. Refusing also deletes the two Google Analytics cookies rather than only stopping the next one.
Every major browser also lets you view, block and delete cookies in its privacy settings. Blocking all cookies will not break this site.
Cookies set by others
Pages on this site link out to external sites such as GOV.UK, FENSA and CERTASS. Those sites set their own cookies under their own policies once you are on them, and we have no control over that.
Changes
Any change to this policy is published on this page with the date at the top. It was last updated on 4 September 2026, when Google Analytics was added and the banner appeared with it. This page is written from an audit of the built site, measured in a browser rather than read off the code, and re-run after any change that adds a script or an embed. For your rights over the data itself, see the privacy policy. If you have measured something here that contradicts this page, please contact us and we will re-run the audit.
